In a community, a performance hall is much more than a location for the dissemination of culture. It is a magical site, essential to the social fabric of its surrounding communities...
Documentary - 27 minutes - 2012
Unusual encounters between fishermen and artists.
Worlds come together on the wintery shores of the St-Lawrence River as the visiting French artist Joseph Kieffer provides the local ice floe fishermen of Rimouski an offer of sharing: Inspired by authentic stories of their lives, he would design a weather vane for each narrator’s ice fishing shack.
This project resembles the people that are at its roots: charming, human and tender. Is it the magical effect of the ice floe, where, ritually, these fishermen return each year to install their cabins for the long winter months? This warm and ephemeral spot in the wintery white where cultures meet to combat the cold, On the Ice Floe takes us through the eyes of its members straight to the heart of this invented but real, short-lived but also very persistent community on the ice floe of the St-Lawrence River On the Ice Floe.
